Pak. -Afghanistan ‘war’ highlights: India on Tuesday called out Pakistan strikes on a hospital in Afghanistan’s Kabul left at least 400 people dead and over 250 injured.

What Pakistan said on the strike?

Pakistan on Tuesday rejected Afghanistan’s allegation that its airstrikes hit a hospital in Kabul, calling the claim “false and misleading,” according to Pakistan’s information ministry, Reuters reported.

The latest attack comes hours after the two sides exchanged fire along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing four  people Afghanistan, as the deadliest fighting between the neighbours in rears entered a third week.

Witnesses said they heard three bombs exploding just as people in the hospital were completing evening prayers, with two of the blasts hitting rooms and patient areas, Reuters reported .

“The whole place caught fire. It was like doomsday,” said Ahmad, 50, who said he was under treatment at the facility and gave only his first name. “My friends were burning in the fire, and we could not save them all.

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah  Mujahid wrote in a post X. An Afghan military source told Al Jazeera that 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed and that 13 outpost were captured in Thursday’s attacks, which the Afghan Taliban says were carried out in retaliation for Pakistani strikes along the border on Sunday.

Pakistan’s ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on X later on Thursday that Pakistani troops had delivered an “immediate and effective response” to Taliban fire across several sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In the early hours of Friday,He said that Pakistan was continuing its military response, claiming that 133 Afghan Taliban members were killed and more than 200 others were wounded. He added that 27 Afghan Taliban posts had been destroyed and nine Afghan Taliban had been capture.

The UN on Wednesday hailed the announcement of a temporary pause to the military conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan for the Muslim holiday of Eid.

“That’s a welcome development,” spokesperson Farhan Haq said during a news conference when asked about the pause. “We hope that the suspension during Eid will be extended.”

Haq conveyed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ “strong” condemnation of thane “airstrike in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 16 March, which reportedly resulted in the death and injury of civilians at a hospital.”

The Secretary-General recalls that under international humanitarian law, patients,  medical personnel and medical facilities, including hospitals, must be respected and protected at all times. He calls for an independent and impartial investigation into the incident, “Haq said.

Extending condolences to the victims and their families,Guterres  called for “deescalation and the immediate cessation of hostilities and urges all parties to comply with their obligations under international law, including the protection of civilians,

“Haq said. :The Secretary-General urges the parties to resolve their differences through peaceful means and dialogue, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.”

Following requests from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Pakistan announced Wednesday that it is pausing its military operation in Afghanistan for the Muslim holiday of Eid at midnight until March 23. Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have worsened in recent weeks as border tensions escalated, causing casualties and property damage.

Since late February, cross-border clashes have killed at least 107 people on both sides, including 13 soldiers and five civilians in Pakistan, with one soldier missing. Afghanistan authorities said 13 soldiers and 76 civilians have been killed, excluding the latest casualties claimed in Monday’s strike.

Pakistan-Afghanistan ‘war’ :-

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said it documented 76 civilian deaths and 213 injuries in Afghanistan between Feb. 26 and March 16, excluding the incident at Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul late Monday, due to hostilities. Islamabad accuses Afghanistan of harboring anti-Pakistan militant groups, which Kabul denies.
